Banana tree is a key crop in agricultural production and brings income to people in Kim Son commune. Here, banana trees are mainly grown for fruit, a few can take advantage of dried leaves, fresh leaves, fresh flowers, and almost 100% of banana stems are cut, causing waste and environmental pollution. The first banana fiber production facility was established in Linh Quy Dong village, opening a new direction in agricultural economic development and solving the problem of environmental pollution in Kim Son.

Kim Son commune has over 350 hectares of agricultural land. Over the years, the commune has converted the plant structure of more than 240 hectares of inefficient rice land to fruit trees such as oranges, pomelos, bananas, etc., in which, the banana plantation area is about 150 hectares. In this “capital” land of banana trees, almost 100% of the banana trunks after harvest are cut down, causing waste and environmental pollution, significantly affecting the lives and production of local people. direction. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu – owner of a banana fiber production facility in Linh Quy Dong village – Kim Son commune said: “After visiting and learning experiences organized by the agricultural service cooperative of Kim Son commune, I realized the fiber market. Bananas have the potential to develop sustainably, be environmentally friendly, and at the same time create more jobs and income for farmers in the homeland as well as solve the problem of environmental pollution, from January 2021. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu and some members established a banana fiber production facility in Linh Quy Dong village with a factory system of over 100m2, equipment worth hundreds of millions of dong. Currently, the banana fiber producer has 01 sewing machine, 05 stripping machines, 01 pressing machine and 01 milling machine. The Banana fiber production facility creates regular jobs for 08 employees with an income of 5-6 million VND/person/month. Every day, the facility needs raw materials to produce from 3-4 tons of banana trunks.”

In addition, the by-products from the processing of banana stems for fiber can also be utilized to produce useful products such as banana peel juice in the fiber production process, which is a very good organic fertilizer for plants; Banana chips are mixed with manure to make organic fertilizer that is both good and cheap, improving the soil environment and increasing income for farmers. The banana fiber production model in Linh Quy Dong village is being invested on a small scale, suitable for the financial ability of a part of the people here as well as creating jobs and helping people have a stable income. while ensuring rural environmental sanitation.

With the current factory scale and machinery, in one day, the banana fiber production facility uses over 3 tons of raw banana stems (with the purchase price of 150,000 VND/ton) to produce 25kg of finished banana fiber. . The current selling price of banana fiber is VND 80 million/ton. Currently, the production facility is signing a contract to supply banana fiber with Musa Pacta 1 TV Co., Ltd. for a period of 1 year, and a period of periodic purchasing of yarn every 3 months. However, with the current production capacity, the facility can only handle about 5% of banana stems by agricultural by-products in the area. Thus, the potential for the establishment to develop stably and sustainably is great, so the expansion of the processing factory, warehouse for finished products and the area used for drying and drying the banana fiber of the village banana fiber production facility is very great. Linh Quy Dong is a problem that the farmers participating in the model hope to receive the attention and support of the district and grassroots authorities. Mr. Bui Van Khanh – Vice Chairman of Kim Son Commune People’s Committee said: “In the near future, Kim Son commune plans to replicate the model in some villages in the commune in order to collect more by-products. agriculture on local banana plantations; at the same time solve difficult environmental problems for the current banana-growing area of the locality”.
